Frodo gets closer to Mordor and can feel it constantly watching him.
Gollum starts getting in-between Frodo and Sam. For instense, Gollum leads Frodo and Sam into a trape with his huge venomous spider just so he can have his ring back.
Frodo can barley walk because of the spider attack and whats worse is that he had run out of food and water right before this tragic event.
Frodo learns in the end that he can always depend on his friends no matter what.
